Sip & Create: Ceramics and Wine Tasting

What to expect...
Join us to savour some unique wines while handbuilding your own ceramics in celebration of creativity and oenology! You will experience the art of winemaking as well as ceramics during this workshop jointly hosted by the Ceramics Collective Basel and The Grape Escape (https://grape-escape.ch/). Guided by our skilled ceramicist, you'll craft your own ceramic plate. Our studio will pre-roll clay slabs for you so that they will be ready to be shaped into the desired vessels using a mould. After guided construction, you will then be able to personalize the surface design of your ceramic pieces, choosing from a selection of coloured underglazes and a range of decorative techniques from stamping and imprinting to brushwork and lettering, the possibilities are simply endless. Depending on your speed and only if time permits, we will also show you how to pinch and shape ceramic cork stoppers. After the workshop, our Studio will then take care of bisque firing and also applying transparent glaze to the upper surfaces of all your pieces for glaze firing. Your creations will be ready for pick-up in 2-3 weeks after the workshop. During the workshop, you'll sample four exquisite wines* listed below and learn a bit about the fascinating history of clay vessels in wine production. Some of these wines have been fermented and/or aged in clay vessels: - Pét-nat from Anatolikos Vignerons, Greece (sparkling) - Trebbiano Amphora from Cirelli, Italy (white) - Blaufränkisch Leithaberg from Heinrich, Austria (red) - Ancestors from Trinity, Armenia (red) * Exact wines to be served at the event may vary depending on availabilities Whether you're a wine enthusiast, an aspiring potter, or simply looking for a fun, hands-on experience, this event is perfect for all skill levels. No prior clay experience is required. This workshop will last 3.5 hours. We recognize that attention spans and creative vision may vary and the project can be completed faster if you prefer. In addition to instruction, the registration fee covers all materials, bisque and glaze firings, as well as coffee, tea, wines and snacks. Due to the consumption of alcohol, this workshop is not open to those below 16 years of age.
