Demo & Apero: Wheelthrowing Tea Pots!

  • 30 Schweizer Franken
  • Spalentorweg 7, 4051 Basel

Service Description

On July 1, 2023, UK-based ceramicist Lucie Bruijn will offer a wheel throwing demo at our studio. Neuroscientist by profession, Lucie hails from South Africa and is currently based in Cambridge, UK and has decades of pottery experience. During this demo workshop, Lucie will focus on tea pots and demonstrate both throwing on the wheel, highlighting some of the necessary techniques to ensure functionality and attaching the spout and handle to a trimmed teapot. In addition, she will highlight a contrasting technique in generating flared bowls on the wheel. Although no prior experience with clay is required for participating in this workshop, having some understanding of working on the potter’s wheel may help you benefit more from the learnings. Because this is a professional art studio, children under the age of 15 may not attend without an accompanying adult. The demo will last roughly 2 hours, and we invite you to stay on for an apero with snacks and drinks and delightful conversations. Come join us and meet with Lucie and your fellow ceramic community in the heart of Basel! Please note that this workshop is focused on demo unlike other immersive workshops we offer. Although participants will most likely not have the opportunity to have a go on the wheel during this session, we welcome those with pottery experience to sign up for our Open Studio Abo and put your learnings to practice during Open Studio nights.
