What to expect:

The 2-day Intensive Wheelthrowing Workshop is designed for existing members of the Ceramics Collective Basel Verein, who have been practising handbuilding techniques but have not taken our Wheelthrowing Intro to Clay, to learn the fundamental skills on the potter's wheel and want to continue practicing independently and with confidence going forward. Each participant will get their own wheel and plenty of personal support from the Instructor(s). Total wheel time up to 15 hours over two consecutive days as detailed below. ✨Day 1: Saturday, June 20th 2026 10:00 - 13:00 During the first 3 hours, we will learn different styles of centering, opening the clay and various techniques of pulling walls. We will focus on throwing cylindrical shapes with even walls, which often serve as the foundation for most forms. Demonstrations will also include throwing a closed form, plate or other forms of interest to the participants. 13:00 - 17:30 (Optional) Free Wheeltime People who have time in the afternoon are encouraged to stay longer, grab some lunch, have a drink and take advantage of the exclusive wheeltime and continue to practice on the wheel as much as they want (finishing around 17:30 for some sanity;). Guidance will be available the whole time. ✨Day 2: Sunday, June 21st 2026 10:00 - 13:00 During the second day, we will learn to trim and refine previously made pieces and move onto throwing curvy shapes ranging from bowls to vases. 13:00 - 17:30 (Optional) Free Wheeltime Like the day before we will stay longer and practice during this exclusive wheeltime. Support will be available the whole day. There is no limit on how many pieces you can throw during this Workshop, though we encourage you to focus on quality over quantity and seek creative ways of utilising the pieces you made for learning benefit(; Following this workshop, you can continue with further trimming, decorating and glazing your pieces during regular Open Studio sessions. Price: CHF 300 Dates: June 20th and 21st 2026 Location: Your beloved studio ;) NOTE: This workshop is designed for existing Open Studio members and will therefore not include any glazing session (we do glazing refreshers quite often during Open Studio PLUS if you feel like you need one). Total beginners who are not yet members of our studio are encouraged to check out other workshops as a taster or our Intro to Clay series for a comprehensive overview of ceramic making and studio orientation.
