2025 Kintsugi Workshop

What to expect...

Discover the beauty of Kintsugi with us - the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold. Instead of hiding cracks, Kintsugi transforms them into something unique, full of history and beauty. After two wonderful workshops in 2023 and 2024, we’re excited to host another evening with Kintsugi expert Francine Schlöth and the Ceramics Collective Basel. Together, we’ll dive into both the philosophy behind Kintsugi and the practical steps of this traditional technique. Francine is a Swiss artist based in Basel who studied Kintsugi and lacquer art in Japan. You can explore her work here: francineschloeth.com/cv . Over the course of three engaging hours, you’ll learn the essentials of Kintsugi in a condensed but hands-on way - and leave with a restored object that tells its own story. ✨ October 11th, Saturday, 14:00-17:00 ✨ Please bring 2–3 broken ceramic pieces (cups, plates, bowls, or anything you’d like to repair). Together with Francine, you’ll pick the one most suitable for restoration. ✨ Wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy, and bring gloves to protect your hands. ✨ A small container is recommended to safely carry your mended piece home.
