The goal of this Intro to Clay class is to give you a taste of different ceramic techniques, including throwing on the potters wheel, hand building, and glazing.

Intro to Clay from Ceramics Collective Basel is a hands-on, 4-week/session ceramics course, intended to give you an overview of different ceramic construction methods, including throwing on the potters wheel, hand building and glazing. You will be introduced to the wheel and try throwing your own pots with the guidance of experienced volunteer Partners of the Verein/studio based on their availability. During the course, we will also introduce different hand-building techniques - slabs, pinch pots, and coil construction. The final session will focus on glazing all of your pieces.

 

Each class is 3 hours long, for a total of 12 hours of studio time.  Finished work will be available for pick up about 2 to 3 weeks after the class' conclusion.

 

The class fee of 350 CHF is for the 4 sessions and includes all materials, including up to 2.5 kg of clay, glaze and firing. This class is geared for adults. However, we will accept teenagers age 16 and up. This relatively small class has a maximum of 6 students.
