Intro to Clay
The goal of this Intro to Clay class is to give you a taste of different ceramic techniques, including throwing on the potters wheel, hand building and glazing.
Intro to Clay from Ceramics Collective Basel is a hands-on, four-week ceramics course, intended to give you an overview of different ceramic construction methods, including throwing on the potters wheel, hand building and glazing. You will be introduced to the wheel and try throwing your own pots with the guidance of the experienced potter Meghan Howard or other experienced Partners of the studio based on their availability. During the course, we will also introduce different hand-building techniques - slabs, pinch pots and coil construction. The final session will focus on glazing all of your pieces.
Each class is three hours long, for a total of 12 hours of studio time. Finished work will be available for pick up about 2 to 3 weeks after the class' conclusion.
The class fee of 310 CHF is for the 4 sessions and includes all materials, including up to 2.5 kg of clay, glaze and firing. This class is geared for adults. However, we will accept teenagers age 16 and up. This relatively small class has a maximum of 6 students.
