- Spalentorweg 7, 4051 Basel
Ceramics Collective Basel and Kintsugi expert Francine Schlöth are pleased to jointly host an immersive workshop that combines practical hands-on experience with in-depth theoretical knowledge of the traditional Kintsugi technique. Discover the art of repairing and transforming broken ceramic or porcelain objects into unique pieces of beauty and functionality! Francine is a Swiss artist based in Basel and has studied Kitsugi and lacquer art in Japan. You can learn more about Francine and her portfolio here: https://francineschloeth.com/cv/ Over the course of three engaging hours, together with Francine, we will delve into the 3 essential components of the workshop, including a condensed version of the Kintsugi technique. By the end of the workshop, we will have the skills to skillfully mend our broken cups, plates, or other cherished objects. To make the most of this enriching experience, we ask you to bring 2-3 broken ceramic objects, ensuring we can select the most suitable one for restoration. Don't forget to wear old clothes and bring gloves to protect your hands. Additionally, please bring a box to safely store your object during and after the workshop. Kintsugi, an ancient Japanese art form, offers more than just physical restoration. It embodies the following: • Functionality Restoration: Reinstating purpose to the previously unusable, Kintsugi empowers you to transform brokenness into usability. • Ornamental Elegance: Through the incorporation of distinctive decorative elements, Kintsugi adds value and beauty to the restored objects. • Storytelling Metaphor: Every Kintsugi repair tells a captivating story, symbolizing resilience and embracing imperfections as part of our personal narratives. • Serendipitous Creation of New Values: Kintsugi allows for chance and serendipity, providing opportunities to create new meaning and beauty through the mending process. Terms and conditions: • The payment needs to be made online at the time of registering for the workshop. • For our existing Open Studio members, you can reserve a spot either using your existing Open Studio Abo or pay directly online like external participants • Owing to the limited number of seats available, the registration is non-transferable and non-refundable.
